Hi folks! I’m Christiana Botic, a visual journalist based in New Orleans, Louisiana. I also spend a lot of time in the Balkans, where I worked as a National Geographic Explorer and Fulbright Fellow.

In 2021, I received a master’s degree in photography from Ohio University. Since then, my work has been published by The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, NPR, Al Jazeera and more.

My personal work often explores culture and migration, as well as the intergenerational impacts of violence on communities. I’m interested in documenting the many ways people challenge systems of oppression—from finding joy and connection in everyday life to forming social movements.

My work has been recognized by College Photographer of the Year and the Missouri Photo Workshop. My longterm projects from former Yugoslavia have been presented at the National Geographic Museum in D.C. and Photo Vogue Festival ‘Visions from the World’ Exhibition.

I’m available for freelance assignments and cups of coffee!
